Godfrey Fire Protection District broke ground on a $7.5million fire station and administrative building in Godfrey (Illinois) on February 16. Residents and firefighters from the area came out to celebrate the ground breaking ceremony. Construction is expected to be complete by the spring 2024.
S. M. Wilson serves as the construction manager. Northstar Management is the owner’s representative. FGM Architects is the architect.
The new facility, which measures 15,000 square feet, will replace the district’s two fire stations. The new location at 3023 Godfrey Road, Godfrey, is more centrally situated and offers room for expansion to meet the ever-increasing need for emergency services. Godfrey’s fire service will be relocated to one building, with all equipment in one central location. This will allow for more efficient and effective manpower allocation during emergency response.
The new, state-of the-art facility will have three drive-thru apparatus Bays, space for medical supplies and training and administrative areas. It also has meeting spaces, offices, offices, and living quarters. The new firehouse will be a one-story structure with a partial mezzanine at the second level. This is to accommodate apparatus bays.
Local voters approved a bond in April 2021 to fund the construction project. The bond funds the purchase of new, essential emergency equipment such as cardiac monitors and firefighter gear, as well the replacement of old vehicles that are becoming more expensive to maintain.
S. M. Wilson completed many other civic projects in the Metro East Illinois region of the St. Louis area, including the City of Highland’s Public Safety Building as well as the City of Edwardsville’s R.P. Lumber Center recreational complex.
