Godfrey Fire Protection District broke ground on a new $7.5 million fire station in Godfrey, IL. Members of the fire service and residents from the community celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony earlier this month. Construction is expected to be complete by the spring 2024. S. M. Wilson serves as construction manager. Northstar Management is the owner’s representative and FGM Architects is the architect. The new facility, which measures 15,000 square feet, will replace the District’s two fire stations. The new location at 3023 Godfrey Road, Godfrey (Illinois) is more centrally situated and has the potential for expansion to meet the ever-increasing need for emergency services. Godfrey’s fire service will be relocated to one building, with all equipment in one central location. This will allow for more efficient and effective manpower allocation during emergency response.
The facility will have three drive-thru apparatus bays. There will also be space for medical and other supplies. Training and administrative areas, meeting spaces and offices, as well as living quarters and offices. The new firehouse will be a one-story structure with a partial mezzanine at the second level. This is to accommodate apparatus bays.
Local voters approved a bond in April 2021 to fund the construction project. The bond funds the purchase of new, essential emergency equipment such as cardiac monitors and firefighter gear, as well the replacement of old vehicles that are becoming more expensive to maintain.
